Authors note: this is a rather old way of editing now! In the meantime better tools have been developped, like ACE_DXF and now OPTech . Nowadays we don't move nodes anymore, we build models from scratch! Just go to the OPT pages... or have a look at XWing Legacy.
But this guide gives you a good impression on how it was in the beginning... (Feb. 1999)This page is dedicated to show you how my new OPT file for Battlestar Galactica was created.
Maybe it will be something like a short "Guide to OPT editing" for those who are interested.
Lt Hags OPT Utilities (this is a new version) or WinOPTutil, have a look at X-Wing Legacy Site
A good 3D CAD program that is able to load/save DXF files without changing node order for example AutoCAD.
If you can't afford it, there are other possibilities :-) as there are for example:- Rhino3D (Beta) - a very good Windows CAD program, trial version available.
Download is about 7MB
- ProtoCAD 3D - a small DOS 3D CAD program (338kB), more info available here
- Pixel3D,
... and maybe others.
An existing OPT file that is adeqate. For this project I choose to use SHIPYARD.OPT (simply copy from your ...BoP\ivfiles directory)
much TIME... (Sorry, no download ;->)
For texture editing you need Texture Extractor (EXTRACT) from Michael Andersen or Kraits new ACTor
For Hit zone fixing and Hardpoint changing: OPT Explorer (V4.0) by our beloved Stealth Jedi, available at his Code Alliance
